New to massage training and need advice on what course to take?
Are you a beginner or need some helpful advice?

We have thousands of people train with us every year, complete beginners for example police men and women, air hostess - flight attendants, office workers, mums, retired men and women, members of the NHS all looking for a rewarding career change or just looking to use therapies with family and friends - all are welcome!

Many people due to the credit crunch are also looking for an extra income too so training as a therapist is ideal.

Many offer therapies at the weekend or evenings giving them an extra income. We have found that often people enjoy being a therapist so much they often look to give up their full time job to pursue a career as a massage therapist. With Gateway Workshops TM this is available with our professional training, advice and wide range of courses on offer.

There are many courses on offer and it can be confusing choosing the right one, we are here to help. There are many different options however the two most popular are either to train in full body massage as a professional therapist or if you are not interested in offering holistic massage you can train in our one day practitioner courses.

AS A BEGINNER WHAT ARE THE BEST OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO ME?

There are two paths most people consider when thinking about training - either to offer full body massage or other therapies like Indian head massage, facial massage, chair massage or foot/hand massage. Some people do not wish to offer full body massage so the other options we offer are ideal. It really is personal choice, others like to offer both holistic full body massage and a variety of other therapies.

If you are a beginner you may wish to start with our one day courses to see if you are suited to massage and if you really enjoy training in these you can then go onto learning the full body massage course as this is a longer and more costly commitment.

All our one day practitioner courses are recognised and insurable allowing you to use these with the general public and charge as a professional therapist. You can also attend and learn these just for use with family and friends this is your choice, we offer small classes ensuring individual attention with passionate and caring tutors who are excellent in their fields.

DO I NEED PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE TO JOIN YOUR ONE DAY COURSES?

If you are a complete beginner you do NOT need previous experience for the following one day courses:

You will notice that our other one day courses are designed for existing therapists so they can add training to offer more therapies to their clients. For example the hot stone massage course, the advanced, deep tissue etc, these you would need a qualification in massage and A & P to attend.  All courses will tell you on the course page if previous experience is required.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TRAINING IN FULL BODY HOLISTIC/SWEDISH MASSAGE

If you wish to train as a professional massage therapist offering full body massage (know as Holistic or Swedish body massage) you will need to train in a recognised qualification so you can obtain insurance and use this therapy with the general public and be able to charge. An internationally recognised qualification is ITEC or BTEC and these are highly regarded in the industry.

Holistic massage is the same as Swedish massage and will allow you to learn everything you need to become a professional massage therapist.

The course we offer includes all of the following - Full Body Holistic Massage, Anatomy & Physiology, First Aid & Business Awareness/Setting up in Business.

We promote an excellent school that offers this course at two venues in London and they also have venues in Bristol, Edinburgh and Huddersfield.

We also promote a different school offering ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma courses in Devon - this can be found on our course list. Many students travel to Devon from all over the UK so this is another alternative venue to consider.

Outside of London it is 15 days, spread over a period of 3 months. Some of the anatomy and physiology aspects of the course will be taught by distance learning with DVD’s of teaching sessions, online quizzes and teleconference tutorials. You are also required to do a first aid course in your own time as well as massage practice and case studies.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES LEARNING MASSAGE AT A PRIVATE SCHOOL RATHER THAN AT A COLLEGE?

The massage course we promote is a Fast Track /Intensive Holistic Massage Diploma for people who want to study quickly. The massage course is provided as two blocks of ten dynamic and energetic days  over 3 months. This is ideal for those of you who do not wish to attend a college course which can take a year with many evening classes.

The other advantage is that you do not have as many students attending which will give you more one to one tuition. At a college you can have as many as 40 students in a class and you can get lost in numbers. A private course allows you to attend a class with around half that number and around one tutor per 12 students often two tutors for one class which is excellent giving you the attention you need.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ONE DAY PRACTITIONER COURSES

“I have noticed some of your courses are just one day, can I learn all I need to in just one day?”

A. YES!

Our philosophy is to keep classes small in order to give more attention to each student, thus cutting down on class hours. You will learn the same technique offered by other companies; however we pride ourselves on one to one tuition in smaller classes.

Certificates are only given once students have demonstrated that they have absorbed the information presented during the day and after applying a satisfactory treatment which is observed by the tutor. To ensure that we act responsibly and carry out good practice, should the tutor feel that you would benefit from further training, certification may/will be held back and you will offered the opportunity/be asked to attend the next available course that has a space, which is offered free of charge. This is rare but we would not be acting responsibly as a professional training company if we sent out students, where the tutor felt they were unsafe in any way. Remember that 1 day to learn a therapy is only a short time and therefore the standard must be high enough to enable them to issue you with a Practitioner/Diploma certificate.

You will receive your diploma certificate on the day of training (It will display Diploma Practitioners Certificate; it does not state that it is a 1 day course) and once you have practiced and feel confident in practising the therapy you have learnt, you will be able to charge the general public as our courses are insurable. Many courses also have training DVD's available, these are an excellent visual reminder of the course you have learnt helping you to remember easily the routines and vital information.

With all Gateway courses you will receive a full comprehensive manual, which covers the course material and all aspects you have learnt on the day. This makes it easy for you to remember the routine without having to make notes during the day allowing you to have a practical day learning this wonderful new therapy technique.

Some other course providers will require you to come back on a second day to go over what you have learnt and to practice on each other, and you will of course spend a lot of extra money to do this. We’re confident that after you have practiced on family and friends until you gain your confidence you’ll be able to give the massage both safely and effectively, and we make sure you get enough practice on the day of training to remember the technique.

Our tutors are always available by email or phone if you need aftercare and help after you have trained with us to help with any questions you may have or concerns.

We have had many students over the years give us feedback and here is just one:

Hi there Sue

You were without doubt the most helpful of all the companies I contacted which is exactly the reason why I chose you. I would just like to thank you once again for all the help you gave me prior to my arriving in the UK and you went out of your way to accommodate my request for an Indian head massage diploma course

I attended the 1 day diploma course on the 8th Dec with tutor Marc Innes
i was extremely impressed from the start of the day to the finish!
He was professional, helpful and very attentive throughout the day.
The atmosphere was informal, friendly and fun
I cant wait to get on with the next diploma!

So a great big thank you once again
Happy xmas and a happy, healthy 2008

Kind Regards
